South Carolina Army National Guard SPC David L. Leimbach, 38, was killed on May 25, 2008, near Bala Baluk, Afghanistan.
A native of Taylors, SC, Leimbach died of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades as it assisted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 118 Infantry, South Carolina Army National Guard.
Leimbach had served in the Marines from 1996 to 2000. He had just completed a 12-month tour in Afghanistan and volunteered to serve six additional months with the New York National Guard.
