COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum will be open again starting Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m.

The museum, which has been closed since mid-March because of COVID-19, will reopen using precautions to guard against the virus.

After Saturday, the museum will be closed on Sunday and Monday for cleaning and disinfecting. After that, it will be open from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday each week, again closing on Sundays and Mondays.

Some further details about the reopening:

  • Only 60 visitors at a time will be allowed into the museum.
  • All guests are asked to wear protective masks in the museum. Please bring your own masks; the museum is not equipped to provide them except in an emergency. All museum staff will wear masks in the gallery.
  • The gift shop, which is too small to accommodate visitors with sufficient social distancing, will remain closed for now.
  • To protect the health of visitors and staff, all tours and programs remain canceled. But some programs will still be conducted online via Zoom, just as they were when the museum was closed. See our Facebook page and website for more information on how to participate in Zoom sessions.
  •  Each week, Curator of Education Joe Long will present his History at Home programs at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays only, via Zoom.
  • The next Lunch and Learn lecture will be presented on Zoom. At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 26, Dr. Joyce Wood, a retired history professor from Anderson University, will speak on “Discoveries from World War I Memoir: Exploring the Haunts of Pirates.”
  •  Since the museum is closed on Sundays, there will be no “Dollar Sundays” for the foreseeable future.

Contact the museum at (803) 737-8095 if you have any questions about reopening or anything else.
