Caring for the Papers

Since the collection came into the care of the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, curators are taking a three-step approach to the McRae papers. All papers were rehoused into archival folders and curators removed all adhesives and metal binding clips. A curator also created a basic inventory and filing system for the McRae Confederate documents.

Currently, curators are arranging the collection according to archival standards and forming a detailed finding aid for researchers. Once the finding aid is complete, further historical analysis on the significance of the papers can occur and the collection will be open to the public. After the processing of the McRae Confederate papers, a similar finding aid will be created for the extensive collection of family papers.
