RELIGION IN THE CIVIL WAR SYMPOSIUM

Don’t miss this opportunity to examine the role that religion had throughout the duration of the Civil War and hear from some of the most respected historians from across the region. The day’s events will include great speakers, lunch, a bus tour of those churches and religious institutions in Columbia that played a significant role in the Civil War and a curator-led tour of the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum’s newest exhibit,
Through Fiery Trials: Religion in the Civil War.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
George C. Rable, author of God's Almost Chosen Peoples: A Religious History of the American Civil War
Rable holds the Charles G. Summersell Chair in Southern History at the University of Alabama. He is author of Civil Wars: Women and the Crisis of Southern Nationalism, The Confederate Republic: A Revolution against Politics, and Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg!, which won the Lincoln Prize. God's Almost Chosen Peoples also won the 2010 Jefferson Davis Award from the Museum of the Confederacy.

LOCATION
The symposium begins at the South Carolina Department of Archives & History, features a bus tour, and concludes at the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum (bus will take attendees back to SC Department of Archives and History following the reception).
